A dental plan allows you to claim back some or all of the cost of essential dental treatment up to the policy limits, such as, check-ups, hygiene visits, fillings, crowns and dental implants (not available on all policies).
You’re free to visit any dentist of your choice (worldwide) and can claim from the very start of your policy including any pre-existing conditions (except for mouth cancer).
Please note this is an annual policy starting 1 August each year and there is only one opportunity to join a year in June/July. The 2024 enrollment window closed 17 July 2024. You will have received a welcome email from Unum when you completed registration but if you need any further assistance you can call Unum on 020 7265 7111
You may wish to consider a health cash plan from Simply Health, which you can join all year round.

How do I use my dental plan?
No, this is a colleague funded voluntary benefit that you can choose to take. The cost of the dental plan depends on the level of cover you pick (details are clearly shown in the portal when you apply to join). Payment is taken by monthly direct debit.
Comparing your own dentist’s charges to the cover available should help you pick a suitable plan.
You can choose to include your spouse/partner and unmarried children under 25 on the same level of cover as you at an additional cost. Check the policy summary for the level of cover you have selected for full details.
Yes, you can use any dentist you like – NHS or private
You can make claims from the day your policy starts (1 August).
Yes, the only pre-existing condition exclusion is mouth cancer. You can even claim towards a preplanned treatment (if it’s covered by your policy) as long as you wait for your insurance cover to begin before starting the course of treatment.
If you need treatment while abroad, get a receipt (in English) and submit your claim in the usual way. You will be reimbursed according to your benefit schedule, using the exchange rate that applies when settlement is made.
You can claim for treatment received following a sports injury up to the policy limits shown in the benefit schedule.
Please note you are unable to change or cancel this insurance until the next renewal period, unless you leave your employer or there is a significant lifestyle change in circumstances (i.e. death, marriage, birth and divorce).
As this is a corporate policy, your cover will automatically end if you leave the company. Unum Dental may contact you with options to continue your cover as an individual using the email address you provided when you registered to use the online portal. If you do not wish to receive this communication, please contact Unum Dental directly.
